About Anova

Anova is the leading smart kitchen brand with its award-winning connected sous vide device, the Anova Precision® Cooker and the brand new Anova Precision® Oven. Since its inception, the company’s vision has been to build an Anova Kitchen – a kitchen where devices are user-friendly, connected, and affordable so that everyone can cook like a pro.

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Product Designer to help us create the best-connected cooking experience for our members to ensure they have the correct information, the best tools, and the growing confidence to achieve their goals in the kitchen. Our ideal candidate has a strong product design background and knows when to use the right UX strategies and UI patterns to persuade, motivate, inspire, and delight.

Reporting to the Chief Design Officer and partnering closely with the Head of New Product Development, you will be looked upon internally as an architect of the Anova connected experience to ensure every single touchpoint between hardware and software is worthy of our foodnerd community.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with research to understand the behaviors, motivations, and goals for members throughout their cooking journey.
  • Leverage qual and quant research, analytics, A/B testing, and beta testing to identify interaction opportunities and validate designs.
  • Deliver on-device and in-app UI designs that are as delightful as they are usable.
  • Develop a scalable design system for our app interface(s) as part of the larger Anova brand playbook.
  • Maintain this design system to ensure a holistic, consistent experience across all touchpoints (i.e., on-device and in-app UI feels connected to packaging, retail/in-store experiences, DTC web experience, advertising, etc.)
  • Partner with other members of the design org including research, industrial design, brand design, copywriting, and content to help architect a consistent user experience throughout the entire foodnerd journey from awareness to ongoing product usage.
  • Work collaboratively with product and engineering in addition to disciplines including marketing, R&D, operations, and project management to ship quality hardware and software.
  • Develop a delightful connected onboarding experience that helps foodnerds use their products right out of the box without much effort and cognitive load.
  • Concept, prototype, and test ways to deliver a mix of functional, emotional, and life-changing benefits.

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of professional experience shipping consumer apps... and bonus points for apps in the food/cooking category!
  • Ability to lead and ideate products from scratch and improve features through a human-centered design process... and bonus points for integrating both on-device and in-app task flows.
  • Experience designing interactions for both native and web apps.
  • Ability to prototype for the right situations (i.e., from quickly updating lower fidelity artifacts between user testing sessions to developing higher fidelity artifacts for internal storytelling and handoff to engineering org).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and familiarity with technical constraints and limitations as they apply to designing for platforms such as desktop and mobile (i.e. Android and iOS).
  • Deep understanding of UI styles, patterns, and standardized elements/interactions.
  • Experience building UI component libraries, style guides, and/or design systems.
  • Passionate about developing original iconography to represent abstract concepts.
  • Zoom control to see the big picture while also paying attention to the tiniest detail.
  • In-depth knowledge of modern design/prototyping tools like Figma.
  • General knowledge of modern web development including the pros & cons of different frontend frameworks (e.g., Angular, React, etc.).
  • Understanding of classic graphic design principles (e.g., color, typography, layouts, illustration, motion, etc.).
  • You are a student of design who seeks inspiration from the masters (e.g., Milton Glaser, Paul Rand, Dieter Rams, etc.) while keeping up with the latest best practices in product thinking (e.g., the fundamentals of design systems like Material, Fluent, Carbon, etc.).
  • Demonstrate empathy in your decision-making.
  • Know when to fight for a design decision and when to let go.
  • Self-driven with an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Ability to adjust on the fly without getting tripped up.
  • Passionate about collaborating with others to solve problems.
  • Proven track record of developing strong relationships with product line managers, developers, management team, and other business partners including teammates in the design org.
  • Passionate about helping others achieve their goals

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Anova

We know that to build a resilient and sustainable company, it is crucial to understand how power and privilege impact people differently across our country. The barriers and discrimination that marginalized communities face have been built over the course of multiple generations and will take time to undo and unlearn. We are doing the work to address our own biases and create a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable culture within the Anova community.

Building on Diversity.

Diversity is all the ways in which people differ, including race, ethnicity, gender, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, language, socioeconomic status, and much more. However, we recognize that in the U.S. particular marginalized groups have faced extensive barriers, specifically BIPOC, LGBTQ, and immigrant communities. We are taking the steps to intentionally dismantle these barriers within each team at Anova and recruit and retain diverse talent at every level. We believe teams with diverse backgrounds make better decisions, better products, and a better company.

Difference is celebrated.

Equitable organizations realize that the playing field is not always even. Obstacles exist for many that do not exist for others. Equity means access to processes, tools, and communication styles that allow us to recognize the full contribution of each team and individual and provide equal opportunity for advancement.

Everyone has a seat at the table.

Inclusion is creating environments in which individuals or groups can be and feel welcomed, respected, heard, supported, and empowered to share their ideas and perspectives. It is a culture of belonging where every person’s voice adds value to Anova.
